WEHRLEIN WINS BACK 11 POSITIONS TO P7 IN BRAZIL!

Monaco Increase Management driver Pascal Wehrlein crossed the finish line of the Sao Paulo Sambodrome in seventh position after battling to win back as many as eleven positions, following a disappointing qualifying session. Needless to say, MIM’s Wehrlein was the best ‘Charger of the Race’ in the Brazilian event of the ABB Formula E series. And on top of that, he further extended his series lead adding another 6 points to his tally to reach a total of 86. His direct rival in the championship, Jake Dennis, once again did not have luck in the race and now he runs 24 point behind the MIM’s driver.

Pascal had promised ‘maximun attack’ in Sao Paulo and he kept his word as he had to climb back from P18 on the starting grid. His qualifying session proved to be more difficult than expected and his #94 Porsche car did non manage to go beyond the first round of qualifying (in addition to that, he had to serve a grid penalty for the accident he had caused in the South African event).

Wehrlein knew that he had to play it smart on a track that would guzzle up energy from the cars’ batteries, with Gen-3 single seater expected to reach their top speeds down the long main straight. Pascal and Porsche team did so by saving up the two ‘attack mode’ periods for the last part of the race, which in the end was extended from 31 to 35 laps to compensate for two lengthy safety car periods.

At the start, Wehrlein managed to drive safely through a multiple car accident, thus climbing quickly to the top ten positions. He had an epic battle with both Gunther and Rast and while other drivers made earlier calls for extra energy, the MIM driver drove his #94 Porsche up to P4 before serving two consecutive ‘attack modes’, only losing three positions in the process. This allowed him to cruise to a safe finish in P7, skillfully using to the last bit of energy in his battery. So it’s yet another useful result for Wehrlein and Monaco Increase Management as the Formula E series heads for the Berlin double-header on April 22-23.
